A greater challenge.

Lithium-ion fires demand more than conventional thinking

Lithium-ion battery fires are complex, unpredictable, and self-sustaining. They present unique dangers that require a different approach.

Extreme
heat

Temperatures can exceed 1,000°C (1,832°F).

Toxic
off-gassing

Releases hazardous and flammable gases.

Electrical
risk

High voltage and reignition potential.

Pressure
buildup

Can cause violent release of toxic gases.

Exploding
battery cells

Thermal runaway can propagate between cells.

Firefighter applying water in the supplied vehicle fire-response concept

Reducing water. Reducing runoff.

An environmentally smarter choice

Reduces the volume of potentially contaminated runoff.

Electric vehicle fires can require substantial amounts of water to cool damaged battery cells and reduce the possibility of reignition.

During the Yellow Jacket live fire evaluation, the response team reported using approximately 500 gallons of water compared with an estimated 2,000 gallons normally associated with a similar incident.

That represented an observed reduction of approximately 75% during this particular test.

  • Conserves limited water supplies
  • Helps limit contaminated runoff entering drains, streams, wells, and groundwater
  • Supports response in locations where hydrant access is limited
  • May simplify post-incident water containment and cleanup

Built by a materials specialist

Driven to protect the heroes responding to one of today’s most difficult fire hazards.

Yellow Jacket was developed by Tim Driscoll, a materials specialist and sales engineer with approximately 30 years of experience working with industrial and aerospace-grade materials.

After studying the limitations exposed during public EV fire-blanket testing, Tim became focused on designing a more complete containment solution.

His experience with thermal materials, industrial applications, product development, and in-house fabrication provided the foundation for Yellow Jacket’s coated material system, nonconductive thread, controlled ventilation, and secure strapping design.

The result is a patent-pending system created around a clear mission: Protect the Heroes. Contain the Hazard.

“This system exists because firefighters told me what they needed. We built it to help keep them safe.”

Answers to important questions.

Frequently
asked questions

What is a lithium-ion battery fire containment system?

A lithium-ion battery fire containment system is designed to help isolate the flames, heat, gases, and debris produced during a battery thermal event. Unlike a simple fire cover, Yellow Jacket incorporates controlled ventilation, secure strapping, advanced heat-resistant material, and nonconductive thread to address multiple incident hazards.

How does controlled ventilation work?

The coated containment material helps prevent fumes from passing through the sides and front of the cover. An adjustable rear zipper creates a designated ventilation point that can direct heat and gases upward and away from other sides of the vehicle.

Why does nonconductive thread matter?

Lithium-ion and electric-vehicle incidents may involve damaged high-voltage components. Conductive thread can introduce an unnecessary electrical pathway. Yellow Jacket’s proprietary aerospace-grade thread did not arc or conduct electricity during progressive electrical testing up to 200 amps.

Can Yellow Jacket be configured for battery pallets?

Yes. Yellow Jacket is developing containment covers for battery pallets and other industrial battery applications. Custom dimensions and configurations can be discussed with the Yellow Jacket team.

Is Yellow Jacket made in the USA?

Yes. Yellow Jacket products are assembled in the United States using specialized high-temperature materials and in-house fabrication capabilities.
